Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

What You Need to Know

  • It’s minimally invasive.
  • It is performed in the clinic by a physician under ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate and safe treatment of the affected area.
  • It makes use of radio waves to treat symptoms as well as underlying causes of varicose veins.
  • The procedure requires local anesthesia.
  • It can be performed in under an hour.
  • It involves relatively minor discomfort.
  • You can recover from it quickly (a few hours.)
  • Covered by insurance almost all the time

How It Works

The procedure begins with a thin catheter being gently inserted into a vein with unhealthy valves. The catheter then emits radio waves which cause specific areas of the vein to heat and close. The healing process will almost immediately commence after the withdrawal of the catheter. As for the closed vein, it is now reabsorbed into the body with the blood supply in the area rerouted through healthier veins. With this procedure, we’re able to treat the greater and the small saphenous vein, the saphenous vein’s side branches, and a few of the perforator veins.

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

What You Need to Know

  • It is a minimally invasive procedure.
  • It makes use of laser beams to treat the symptoms as well as the underlying causes of varicose veins.
  • The procedure requires local anesthesia.
  • You can recover from it quickly (a few hours.)
  • It involves some minor discomfort.
  • It is performed in the clinic by a physician under ultrasound guidance to ensure safe and accurate treatment of the affected area.
  • It is covered by insurance more often than not.
  • Patients can resume their normal routines within a day after getting the treatment.
  • The Procedure is completed in an hour or less.

How It Works

The procedure basically starts with a small optic fiber being inserted gently into a vein with unhealthy valves. This delivers laser light that heats and closes specific areas of the vein. The healing process almost immediately begins after the optic fiber is removed. The closed vein will now be reabsorbed into the body with the blood supply in the area being rerouted naturally through healthier veins. This procedure treats the greater and the small saphenous vein, the saphenous vein’s side branches, and a few of the perforator veins.

Sclerotherapy

What You Need to Know

  • We provide premium treatment for smaller varicose veins and spider veins. It is also used as a treatment solution for malformed blood vessels and hemorrhoids.
  • The procedure lasts about half an hour.
  • Recovery is immediate.
  • It is often covered by insurance.

How It Works
A medicated sclerosing solution is first injected into affected blood vessels. Right away, this causes the veins to close and begins their reabsorption into the body. Multiple ten-minute sessions of this procedure may be needed for all unhealthy veins to be removed and achieve the ideal aesthetic result.

There is a variation of this procedure called duplex ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, in which ultrasound is basically used to map and visualize veins, allowing the doctor to track the injected sclerosant. For larger veins, foamed sclerosants are used because its thicker consistency and larger surface area displaces blood in affected veins and ensures maximum scelrosant action.
